After 3000 Years...

After almost 3,000 years of Jewish peoplehood, or even 60 years of the State of Israel, one would think that there would be some historical memory with regard to holidays. Based on my call to the Egged Bus Company, I wonder.

“Shalom. On Shavuot, May 29, will the bus run between Jerusalem and Tel Aviv?”
“What?” the agent asked.
“On Shavuot, will the buses run?”
“Do you mean the holiday Shavuot?”
“Yes, May 29.”
“I don’t know. You have to call back one week before.”
